is a regrettable thing to observe a terrible oppression of academic
research and freedom of expression in Taiwan. The most fundamental
principle of the democratic society is to guarantee full freedom of
academic research and expression of one's ideas. If it was violated by
the state or any social groups for any reasons, it might be an
expression of authoritarianism and political underdevelopment. I will
expect that Taiwan is a mature society that allows full freedom of
