Fall 1999--Introduction to Transgender Studies跨性/別研究概論
Josephine Ho Office: A-212,
Office Hours: Wed 10-12 or by appointment

This course aims to introduce students to the increasingly popular field of transgender studies and related topics. We will concentrate on the work of two authors, Judith Halberstam on female masculinity and Pat Califia on sex changes, to enlighten us as to the complexities of "differently-gendered"-ness and the discourses surrounding it. We will devote most of our class discussions to the assigned readings, with occasional reports on other related readings. Students are required to make scheduled oral presentations in class and to participate in class discussions. One mid-term paper (5 pages) and one final paper (10 pages) are required.
