A Cultural Studies Textbook in the University in Japan
The paper concerns the book, the Introduction to Cultural Studies
(Karutyuraru Sutadeizu Nyuummon, Chikuma Shinsho) which I published with Toshiya UENO in 1999. It has been the best selling book in the field of cultural studies (sold about 30,000 copies) in Japan and often used as a textbook of cultural studies for BA students. I will introduce the content of the book, discuss how to use it as a textbook in the classroom and critically examine the problem of the textbook.
