美國麻州大學傳播學博士，二○○三年任教於加拿大社會與人類學系並擔任社群、文化與健康研究召集人，亦是性別與婦女研究系成員。Patton從1980年初期就開始參與愛滋運動，她的愛滋研究專書每本皆是影響深遠的著作，包括有Sex and Germs: The Politics of AIDS.(1988)、 Inventing AIDS.(1991)、Last Served?: Gendering of the HIV Pandemic.(1994)、Fatal Advise: How Safe Sex Education Went Wrong.(1996)、Globalizing AIDS.( 2002)，編有Rebirth of the Clinic: Places and Agents in Contemporary Health Care.(2010)、Queer Diasporas. (2000)。此外，她的研究領域還涵蓋了社會運動理論、酷兒研究、媒體研究。
