The
course will focus on some of the most important works by Foucault.
We will study Foucault』s Discipline
and Punish and The History of
Sexuality: An Introduction, plus some key texts that relate to the
questions of governmentality, bio-politics as well as Foucault』s
「methodology.」 Besides
primary texts, secondary sources will be consulted as well.
The goal is to get students familiarized with Foucault』s basic
concepts and their wider implications.
Requirement: readings and presentations, a 4-6 page mid-term
paper in Chinese, and a 7-10 page final paper in English.
