管理學院 School of Management

The School of Management was established in 1984. Present organization consists of four departments (Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Information Management), three institutes (Humane Resource Management, Industrial Economics, and Industrial Management), one extension program--EMBA, two research centers (ERP Center & Management Development Center), and one computing center. As Taiwan’s economy advances, now the college is planning to add a dept. of Accounting and an institute of Laws of Finance and Economics to further prepare consultants rather than managers for the industries.

The School of management consists of two academic buildings, every classroom has its own air conditioning system and a big screen for multi-media presentations. I’ll tell you a secret. It’s said that the school of management is the richest one among all the colleges at NCU. And, the most powerful evidence is this big thick glass ceiling above! It costs NT$9,000,000! ( I’ll point out the piece of glass for all of you when I present.)

Why is the School of Management so rich? Actually it’s because they have devised many “reasonable” ways to collect resources! For example, part of their funding comes from entrance exam fees. The college of management is so popular that each year thousands of aspiring college graduates flock to our school to try to enter our MBA program. Last year alone say 2000 applicants, each paying $NT2000 just to take the exam. Only 30 examinees are admitted. It means the School of management collected NT$4,000,000 with perfect ease! Another important income has to do with the EMBA program which was set up, not for young students like us, but for C.E.O.s, managers or presidents of big companies. The tuition each semester is as high as NT$100,000. (聽起來並不多)So you know how rich the School of management is simply by looking at its tuition level! Also, in the night if you pay attention, you will see a lot of BMWs and Benzes and Lexuses parked on our campusnear the School of management, and those who get off the cars are usually in formal suite. Then you know they are the students in the EMBA program.

This year, there’s an extra special factor that also gives the School of Management a different atmosphere---the School of Management has for the first time successfully attracted foreign students to come here for short-term studies! In fact, we now have five exchange students from France studying in the dept. of Business Administration. The School of Management will definitely continue to promote more international academic exchange in the near future. As the current trend of globalization continues to sweep across Asia, and as China and Taiwan enter the World Trade Organization this year, it becomes all the more important for everyone--no matter who you are, a young student or even a boss of big company--to acquire some global-oriented understanding about the management sciences in a vibrant environment such as our School of Management.
