語言中心閱讀坊 The Reading Corner of Language Center

When you walk into the General Education Building and straight to the center office, you will see the newly established Reading Corner, where students sit quietly reading books and browsing web pages under the lambent light. The Reading Corner was established in 2004 and differs from the main library in its aim to create an all-around-English-learning environment. Although its area is merely one fourth of the English book section in the main library, the abundance in English materials is highly commended by students. What's more, English textbooks are not the only choices there; the Reading Corner also supplies books of other languages. As the Chinese saying goes, "A sparrow may be small; nevertheless, it has all the right organs." The Reading Corner supplies students with all they need in learning English. Whoever comes with a determined mind to get himself or herself immersed in English will certainly achieve the goal through pleasant and extensive reading as well as online-learning.

If you happen to stop by the "corner" or have a mere ten-minute break between classes, you would spend that time well in the Reading Corner. One little thin novel will not take up much time, and one may utilize that time to pay a visit to the literary world. In order to encourage students to acquire a habit of learning, the Reading Corner offers a "Self-paced English Learning Passport." With every hour of learning in the Reading Corner, students can get a mark on their learning passport. The top 50 students who have collected a certain number of marks before their passports expire will be given book coupons as prizes. The Reading Center also hold monthly activities that aim at building up students' habit of reading. Pre-reading and post-reading questions as well as discussions with instructors are held to feed students' appetite of reading. For those who may have general questions related to English learning or specific ones for overseas studying, the counseling service also takes care of them well. As the logo of the English Counseling Service indicates, "That's incredible," and indeed, the Reading Corner is incredible in reaching out to every corner of English learning.
