運動場 The Athletic-Field

Please don't mistake this blue stretch of open space for an outdoor swimming pool. When I first saw it, I made that mistake. But actually, it's one of the specialties on this campus, for you cannot find a second blue track around Taiwan . You must wonder, “how come it's blue?” Well, out of pure curiosity, I have asked many people on campus about it. But strangely enough, no one seems to know the answer for sure. The most probable answer goes like this: The year of the construction of this track was also the year when the Olympic Games were held in Athens , Greece . As a tribute to the hosting country, the school authorities decided to paint it blue. Sounds far-fetched? I can provide you with another possibility: Perhaps the painters had an overstock in blue paint and they were trying to get rid of it. I'll just leave the decision to you on which explanation is more believable.

However queer the color may be, it doesn't stop people from working out on the field. We hold our annual athletic meet here too when all departments get together and compete against one another in all kinds of games. And in the evenings, the field is occupied by joggers who are working out after a long day of work. Since the tracks are open to the public, all sports lovers are welcome here.
