敦煌書局及咖啡座 Cave's Bookstore

Ladies and gentleman:

We have now come to the one and only bookstore on campus, Cave’s Bookstore. National Central University had no more than a stationary store with a very limited book collection about ten years ago. It was far from satisfactory for the intellectual needs of the faculty and the students. Yet considering the size of this university, with only more than two thousand students, we really could not support a full-size bookstore.

It was only much later in 1998, when the student population at National Central had increased to over 5000 that the famous Cave’s bookstore began considering taking root here. We are quite fortunate that this bookstore with a long tradition to serve the university population has decided to settle one of its 16 branches on our rather remotely located campus. Moreover, it has created a relaxing intellectual atmosphere where many of the updated magazines and chart-climbing hot books are waiting for readers. The collection here includes books for language-learning, journals and magazines, textbooks and reference books. We can even order textbooks from overseas through this bookstore. What’s best is that students and faculties can enjoy at least a 10% discount without any kind of membership.

The bookstore has drawn such a steady crowd of booklovers that recently it set up another kind of service for the campus—we may not have a Starbucks, but now we have an Each Cup Coffee shop right next to the bookstore and students are flocking there to enjoy a moment of relaxation and socialization. The only disadvantage is that it’s not a 24-hour business. In fact, it is only open Monday through Friday from 9:30am~10:30pm. And on weekends and during the breaks, the operating hours are even fewer. For those who enjoy a nice cup of hot coffee late at night to help with their studies, they can only make some instant coffee in their own rooms.
