女一舍 The First Women's Dorm

Hi, we are now standing in front of the first and the oldest women’s dorm on NCU campus. As you can see, it still has wired fences all around the buildings. This is obviously leftover from an older concept of safety. There are four buildings inside, with the first dorm being for graduate students, and the rest of the dorms are mostly for freshmen and sophomores.

One special thing in National Central University is that students can apply to have phone lines installed in their rooms if they so desire and the phone numbers would correspond to their room numbers. Since most of the women are freshmen and sophomores who are in hot demand, many male students would randomly pick the numbers and call to ask the girls out, kind of like a blind date.

If the relationship works out, then it becomes one of the romantic dramas which are on display around 10pm every night. Needless to say, couples are reluctant to part with each other as the night draws to an end and they would hang around the dorm gate until the last minute. Some people will call these parting sights the “shining bomb.” Why? Because the intimacy is too harsh for the eyes of the beholder. If you don’t want to be flashed by those lovebirds, you may consider avoiding passing by this area at dorm closing time.
