素食天地 The Vegetarian Food Corps

As a student in NCU, you can find a variety of food according to your budget, taste and dietary habits. Still, a group of people have a hard time finding the right kind of food for themselves.

On campus, vegetarians can find their kind of food only in cafeteria 7 and cafeteria11. Most vegetarians eat so purely that even eggs, onions, and garlic are not allowed due to their religion or eating habits. Also, some of them feel uneasy dining with the smell of meat inside the restaurant. The surroundings of NCU seems not too friendly toward them.

Actually, around the so-called Midnight Snack Street, vegetarians can find the food they want and the place they would feel comfortable in. It is a food corps consisting of students and some graduates who would take turns cooking three meals and buying vegetables, rice, and fruits early in the morning. They do the same routine even on holidays. Since the club functions not only as food-provider but also advocates for their religious beliefs, they also welcome new members to join them. They pray before every meal, at night, and on special days too.

Dining in such a religion-oriented place doesn't mean that you have to convert to their religion. Some members are Buddhists or atheists, but they still find no difficulties in sharing the pleasant atmosphere and mutual help. As a significant tradition, every year the food corps hold two large-scale parties—the welcoming party and the farewell feast. The former offers family-like care and warm embrace, while the latter wishes good-luck for the graduating class. They both embody the spirit of the corps. Furthermore, the corps also offers rooms for students. Each room costs NT$5,000 for half of a semester. So, if you desire a clean place, a pure diet, a quiet room, and a family-like family, come to the food corps .
