Several years ago I worked at a genetics laboratory. This was the most complicated and interesting job I have done. My work was breeding flies and mating them. Also we wanted to find if there is any genetic defect. So I called myself the 「fly matchmaker」.

Every morning I had to pour out the old flies from the vials and detain the newly emerged virgin flies. Then I separated male and female flies into different vials. After three days I would choose pairs of sexually matured male and female and put them together into a new vials. A few minutes later you can see the desirous male fly moving around the female and starting a courtship dance. Finally they mated. Unfortunately they never enjoy any happy ending, because a few days later I would dissect the brain out of their offspring 「larva」 and make slides of its chromosome. 

It was through the sacrifice of these flies that lab researchers found out that natural flies not only maintained good genes, but also bad genes.

Do you think it』s complicated to communicate with the opposite sex? If no, congratulations! Because according to recent statistics, most people find it difficult and complicated to have conversation with the opposite sex. There are various reasons to explain this problem. 
First, girls tend to focus on one topic and they can go on for an hour; boys on the other hand tend to jump from one topic to another and none of which extended more than a few turns.

Second, girls love talking and they think it』s the best way to enhance their friendship. They consider conversation as the cornerstone of their friendship. However, boys would like to do things together, rather than talk.
Last but not least, girls sat closely when they are talking and their eyes focus on each other』s faces, but boys sat at an angle to each other and they seldom look at each other.

When a boy and a girl try to communicate with each other, they may very likely find each other rude or not caring, and misunderstanding emerges due to the lack of successful communication. But in my opinion, if both sexes learn the differences between their conversation styles and try to cooperate with the other party, communication will never be complicated anymore!

LOVE…It sounds simple, but it is not as simple as you think. Love is about understanding, caring, and protecting each other. Well… in fact, love can be so complicated that it can drive people to commit suicide.

For an example, when our boy/girlfriend has to leave us to study abroad, at first, we imagined that we could maintain our relationship even over the long distance. And maybe it does work for a while, but then things begin to change. This kind of long distance relationship is very complicated. Sometimes we can only rely on our trust and understanding. Without those two things, there is little hope that your relationship will last. After all, you don』t know how he/she』s doing there.

Then, when someone else turns up and shows concern for your boyfriend or girlfriend, things get more complicated. We become jealous, we start to doubt him/her. We are not sure whether he/she is faithful to us. It also depends on our boy/girlfriend, how he/she can maintain his/her feelings for us. Lies won』t last long. But if our doubts get stronger, even though he/she is faithful to us, it will still poison the relationship.

Of course, not all long distance relationships end up sadly. Many of them last forever. Anyway… we』ll never know… love is simple but complicated… Just love someone with your own true heart and hope for the best!!!

I hate anything complicated. They are always "time-consuming", and for me, time is money. As a result, I never spend my time dealing with complicated puzzles. But I do remember even today one interesting and complicated logical puzzle that I learned in elementary school.

The puzzle starts with a farmer carrying a dog, a rooster and some corn home. However, there was a river, and the little boat on the river can allow him to carry only one item each time. Here comes the problem. If he carries the dog and leaves the rooster and corn, the rooster will eat all the corn. If he puts the dog and the rooster aside and carries the corn only, the poor rooster is surely to be swallowed by the dog. Therefore, the farmer carried the rooster for the first time, but when he wanted to pick up the second item to cross the river, he was in a dilemma. He could neither carry the dog nor the corn for neither one of them can stay alone with the rooster on the other shore.

You may be as smart as the farmer who finally came up with the following solution. After carrying the rooster over the river, he picked up the dog and crossed the river. However, he did not leave the dog alone with the rooster, he carried the rooster back and picked up the corn. So, the dog and the corn were again on the same shore with the rooster on the other. In the end, the farmer carried the rooster over the river for the last time and he got everything successfully across the river.

Making Candles 複雜的蠟燭製造過程

Winter break is coming and if you want to have some fun doing things by yourself, I』d recommend making your own candles to keep yourself cozy at home with the burning light by your side. 

For the materials, you』ll need chunks of wax, empty milk cartons or juice containers as molds, metal bowls, wax color, concentrated solid scent or essential oils, wicks, and putty. You can get most of these materials at a craft store.

We begin by preparing the mold. First, poke a hole in the bottom of the mold to put the wick through. Then run the wick through the hole and use the putty to cover up the rest of the hole. Wrap the other end of the wick around something that can sit across the top of the mold. Make sure that the wick is going straight up the center of the mold and that it is firm. Your mold is now ready. 

Then we start preparing the wax. Boil water in a pan and set the metal bowl over the pan. Chip off pieces of the wax and place them in the metal bowl. Let wax melt and heat up to about 150° F or 65° C. You can use a candle thermometer or you can simply wait around 15 minutes after all the wax is melted--it』ll reach the needed temperature. Then add your desired color and scent.

For the final step of making the candle, pour the wax into the mold and let it set. It will harden faster if placed in the refrigerator but that may decrease the quality of the candle. As the candle is setting, you may want to stick a fork or other pointy object around the wick to release some of the tension on the wick. The candle takes about six to seven hours to cool and harden at room temperature. When the wax is completely hard, you can remove the mold and see your beautiful new candle.
