sample--statement of purpose 1
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am
writing to apply for admission into your distinguished graduate
program in Fine Arts for the Fall of 2003. I』ve heard of the
vibrant academic atmosphere and training at the Dept. of Fine
Arts—I』ve also visited your website (http://www.nknu.edu.tw/~art/)
frequently—and I am greatly attracted by your graduate program.
With my academic training, professional accomplishments in the
university, and individual passion towards art, I am sure I will be
able to make a contribution to your fine and creative school.
Raised
in a family that values art and literature, I have demonstrated
outstanding work in drawing since childhood and have attended art
exhibitions at the National Palace Museum, National Museum of
History, and Taipei Fine Arts Museum regularly. When I entered
National Central University, I kept developing my interest in art.
I not only joined art organizations on campus, but also assisted
organizing art activities both on and off campus every year.
To further immerse myself in the art world, I devoted myself to
learning about Chinese and Western art histories and graphic design.
To explore possible collaboration between art and technology, I
trained myself in designing websites and computer graphics while
continuously producing my own work of art. Several pieces of
my artwork had been exhibited at NCU as well as at the Chung Li City
Art Center.
I had hoped that my interest in art would
be further solidified by knowledge and serious study into this
professional field. As I acquired more understanding about
art, I have also become conscious of the serious lack of reference
material in Taiwan. Although there are a number of books about
art history, artists and aesthetics, most of them are either too
esoteric and pedantic, written only for postgraduates or professors,
or too simple and general, written with lay beginners in mind.
Furthermore, the encroachment of globalization has led most people
to spend most of their energy digesting western cultures, leaving
behind their own culture and values. The superficial
understanding about art history that results from this trend is one
good example.
For my personal project, I would like to
try to create an art education program that introduces art to
children. My plan is to use the DVD, video tapes and even a
website, combining them into something that looks like Newton for
Children (小小牛頓) or One
Hundred Thousand Whys (十萬個為什麼).
Joining the visual arts to sight and sound introductions will be
much more interesting for the art learner and thus induce much more
interaction with them. I am hoping that the training offered
by your distinguished program would help me combine theory and
practice and realize this dream of mine.
I am
enclosing all relevant documents in relation to my academic records
and accomplishments in extracurricular activities. Should you
need any other information concerning my application, please do not
hesitate to write. Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Kylie
Ning
