            Letter 3 Dear Dr. B:

             I have just
received my report card and am greatly dismayed by the grade that I
got in your course 「Introduction to xxxxxxxx」

             If I am not
wrong, the syllabus states clearly that 「final grading is based
solely on the quality of the final paper.」  I have worked
hard and learned a lot from the course, and I believe I have done a
good job writing the final paper--as demonstrated by the score on
it: 94.  To my great surprise, the final course grade turned to
be 79.  I have a real hard time understanding the huge
discrepancy between the two figures.  Even if other factors,
such as attendance and participation in class discussions, have gone
into calculating the final grade, I believe they should not have
influenced the final outcome to such a degree, as I have always been
            active in class activities.

             If it is not too
much trouble, could I set up some time to discuss my grade with you?
I can be reached at xxxxxxxxxxxx.  Thank you.

             Sincerely,
