God works in mysterious ways,
and we mortals
can't comprehend the ways of God.
He gives miracles;
sometimes they come quietly while you're looking in the other
direction. You will not know what He
will surprise you with until it comes to you. It』s like walking in a
haunted mansion. What lies behind the next door is beyond your
expectation. There may be a portrait, a room with a bloodstained
carpet, or nothing.
Take the most
controversial
topic now in Taiwan, the lottery, for example. I remember one time
there was one man who bought two lotteries with the same six numbers on
them. Guess what? Those happened to be the winning numbers and he won
the jackpot. Wasn』t that something mysterious? We have about as good
as a chance of winning the first prize as we do picking up a first-prize
lottery ticket while walking on the street. And he had TWO! On the
other hand, some people shelled out quite a lot of money for the lottery
and in return, they just got their dreams shattered. You may invest a
lot in the lottery, but it does not necessarily mean that you will have
a better chance winning it.
The chance of success may be
quite thin for people who buy lottery tickets; it is even slimmer for
people who, by their social status, were expected to amount to nothing.
Still, God works in mysterious ways. In ancient China there was a war
going on between the countries Chu and Han. The leader of Han, Liu
Bang, was a man of peasant background. Yet he rose to become the
founder of China's great Han dynasty. Who would have ever thought that
one civilian, and a peasant, could achieve such great feats?
A cliché goes, 「 God helps those
who help themselves.」 I think we should play our own roles and leave
those things that we cannot predict or control to Him. Since we are
unable to make out what He is planning, we』d better pay more attention
to what we already have in our hands. That』s something we can handle,
right?
Work like
you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching.
Sing like nobody's listening.
Live like it's Heaven on Earth.
