本課程將專注於西方社會自15世紀以降的重大社會文化變遷，從生產模式到社會結構到生活方式到思想情感，特別是其中的互動關連。課程目標在於幫助學生認識「現代性」的形成與浮現，從而認識我們所引以為當然的現代生活和現代人性。成績將建基於學生小組及個人之課堂報告、小考、書寫。本課程之教學將混用中英文。
