Sample Letter 1

Dear Mr. Yang: 

On behalf of the 20 employees of this company, I am writing to remind you that we are two months behind in receiving our monthly pay and many of us are struggling to keep up with out daily expenses and house payments. 

We are not sure how this delay came about—perhaps there are problems in the accounting department, or there has been a sudden glut in cash flow.  In any case, we are quite concerned about the delay in wage payments and are hoping that the matter can be settled before the next pay day.  We will discuss other possible moves if we do not hear from you then.  Thank you for your prompt attention.

Sample Letter 2

Dear Mr. Yang: 

Our previous letter dated March X, 2002 reminding you of the delay in our wage payments did not seem to have any impact on the company, and we are writing again to inform you that we are getting ready to take legal action over this matter. 

As of March X, we, the employees of this company, have not received any salary for three months.  According to Labor Law, we are entitled to file a formal complaint with the Labor Bureau and take the matter up with them.  If we do not receive any word from you and if the company has no plans to comply with our request, we will file the formal complaint on March 14, 2002.  Please give this matter your immediate attention.

Sample Letter 3

Dear Dr. B: 

I have just received my report card and am greatly dismayed by the grade that I got in your course 「Introduction to xxxxxxxx」 

If I am not wrong, the syllabus states clearly that 「final grading is based solely on the quality of the final paper.」  I have worked hard and learned a lot from the course, and I believe I have done a good job writing the final paper--as demonstrated by the score on it: 94.  To my great surprise, the final course grade turned to be 79.  I have a real hard time understanding the huge discrepancy between the two figures.  Even if other factors, such as attendance and participation in class discussions, have gone into calculating the final grade, I believe they should not have influenced the final outcome to such a degree, as I have always been active in class activities.

I am greatly disappointed not only because I got a wrong delivery but also because I have waited for them for two unusual long months. Sample Letter 6

Dear Sir:


As a long-time patron of your restaurant, I am writing to make a formal complaint about the service that we received when dining there last Saturday, December 18.

My family and I have always enjoyed eating at your restaurant, but last Saturday, we were very disappointed. We were the first customers to place our orders that night, but for some odd reason, while other customers got their orders, we were still waiting. I am sure we did not order anything out of the ordinary that would call for such a long wait. So I am urging you to check into your kitchen procedure to make sure that there is nothing seriously mixed up. In addition to the kitchen staff, you may also want to improve on your service staff. The waiters that night made many mistakes and even served us the wrong meals. Most important of all, the waiters never did once come to our table to remove the dishes that we finished during the entire course of the dinner. We tried to remind them but it seemed that we were totally ignored. 

We are very disappointed with the service we received that night. We think the quality of your service has deteriorated since the departure of your previous manager. As faithful patrons of your restaurant, we sincerely hope you would take the time to train your staff better in order to win back more customers.
