This course will introduce an in-depth study of one of the classic works in the burgeoning field of cultural studies. The objective of the course would be to equip students with the proper conceptual and analytic tools so that they can conduct their own studies of our rapidly changing culture. Half of the weekly sessions will open with student reports on recent discursive exchanges in the field, followed by discussions of the weekly reading assignment. The other half of the weeks, students will make reports on relevant topics by using our readings as points of departure. We will also build our course website as we move along the course. Grades will depend on weekly reports, website contributions, a mid-term project, and a final paper (5 pages).
